House pictures as of August 31

This is really my only forum for talking about the house now.  Others have specifically asked me not to talk about it any more because it makes others feel so bad.

This is really what feeds my guilt.  Even though we have both worked very hard and for very long on this house, others feel we do not really deserve it.  It is a shame.  I am not saying we deserve it, I don't think anyone DESERVES anything - too much entitlement goes with that, but I do think I have worked, saved and penny pinched for it and it is something we started long before Harvey happened.

Anyway, here are the pictures of our house!

  1. When my sister was pregnant she couldn't talk about anything else and it drove me nuts. Of course I was happy for her but it was excessive. Is it possible that you are just talking about the house too much and that is annoy others?

    1. No, I have not mentioned it in over 2 months because my grandmother died and my daughter started theatre. Before that, I posted and talked about it maybe once a week. I cut back when my grandmother died, I lost interest in the house for the most part and nothing much was happening anyway. I guess I am talking about it too much here too. Sorry.

    2. Noooo I totally didn't mean it like that and I didn't mean to offend you. I actually like reading about your house. If I didn't I wouldn't bother reading or commenting. The difference with blogs is if I don't like/prefer to read about a specific topic I just skim it and then move on to the next post. For instance some of my favorite bloggers are on opposite political spectrums as me and so I just skip their posts when it's about that. In real life it isn't so easy to ignore if someone keeps bringing the same thing up over and over. Plus it's your blog and you can talk about whatever you want!

    3. Thank you, I am just so tenderhearted right now. There has been one disaster after another! I have really tried to make a point in real life not to talk about it much and listen to their stories about church, their kids, pubic school, etc, etc, etc.

    4. I think you mean you feel fragile. Tenderhearted is how you feel toward others.

  3. Why can't people simply be happy for other people? I don't agree with the entitlement attitude that so many people nowadays seem to have, but when someone puts forth the work and effort to accomplish their dreams and goals, well that is completely another story! It also has nothing to do with who deserves what. You've earned it and that is a huge difference! I love hearing about your house and seeing the pictures. I'm also thrilled for you!

    1. Thank you - it has been something we have worked toward for about 10 years!

  5. It all looks so nice and you are getting close to getting it done! People on your blog are saying you post/talk about it too much? I love reading your house (and other life) updates. Why shouldn't you have a nice house? You guys have worked hard for it and if that's what you want to spend your money toward, then that's your right. But, I do know what you mean. We are already getting that "vibe" from people- like we don't deserve to be able to build our new house.

    1. No, not on this blog. Facebook mostly. Thank you - I know it is all consuming, but you are right, it is almost done!

    2. we didn't even post a pic on facebook of getting out site work done. Someone will have to put their 2 cents in that we should have done it a certain way or why do you have two driveways, etc.

  6. I read your blog but don't ever comment but I had to on this one! I LOVE reading about your new house being built! Its spectacular! I think I'm living through your words now. LOL No , not everyone can do what you are doing but to take your joy from you is sort of crappy in my opinion. I would much rather see this on FB then the same ol' things people post about...
Keep the pics coming! Love it!

  7. These people will have something to celebrate some day, maybe even now. I would not give one second of my life to listen to them. That is such a bad attitude. They could turn away and not read or listen, but they attack you.

I am happy for you, and my house is leaky. But, why would anyone ruin your joy. If you worked hard, then you certainly don't feel entitled. As I earned my first BA, then the second, and the MA, there were people who would make snotty remarks about my degrees. It did hurt me so. Why could they not be happy or proud for me? But, they were stuck with their life and I did something about mine. It's a hurt that does not go away soon.

I guess you are talking about fb. I hope these people don't expect to be invited to a housewarming.

I LIKE seeing your pictures, and you can post twice as many and make me twice as happy for you.
